Is your Christmas tree starting to lose all its needles? Well, don't worry. These goats will happily eat it for you.
Starting Jan. 6, you can drop trees off at the Awbury Arboretum in Germantown, where goats will chow down on them!
"For goats, eating green things is very important to their diet," said Leslie Jackson, Philly Goat Project volunteer coordinator.
She said last year they got 2,000 trees and this year they are hoping for even more.
"We added another weekend, so it’s the first, second, and third weekend in January."
Jackson says for the third weekend, their friends at Laurel Hill West offered up their space for tree collection.
Families can bring their used Christmas tree to the collection spots or donate $20 to interact with goats and participate in other activities.
Karen Krivit, director of the organization, says the trees will last the goats several months and sustain them at a time when less greenery is available.
Once the goats are done munching on the greens, the trunks are turned into wood chips to fill the farm’s paddocks.
An advisory: If you are looking to recycle your trees, make sure they are untied, have no decorations on them, and are free of harmful chemicals.
