PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Giant Food Stores app and website are down — the result of a cyberattack on the chain’s parent company based in the Netherlands.
Giant supermarkets across the Philadelphia region remain open. The stores are refunding people whose online orders have not been fulfilled.
The security incident is also affecting Food Lion, which has stores in Delaware.
The company, Ahold Delhaize, said it has no evidence that customer or employee data have been stolen.
It comes as separate cyberattacks on supermarket chains in Europe caused refrigeration systems to overheat, spoiling food at hundreds of stores and sparking some fires.
