PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A glitch knocked SEPTA’s ticketing system out of commission Monday, preventing riders from buying tickets or adding values to their SEPTA Key cards.
SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch says a software update by its ticketing vendor Conduent disabled the system around 5 a.m.
“If they go up to a kiosk, it’s not going to process any kind of inputs or anything. They’re not going to be able to get started with that transaction process,” said Busch.
The system was restored just before 3 p.m.
Commuters who already had funds loaded onto their Key cards were not affected by the glitch, nor were those who paid by app or credit card.
Riders who were unable to buy new tickets were allowed to ride for free.
The transit agency is trying to tally up how much revenue was lost because of the faulty software update.
