SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A Woolwich, New Jersey man has been convicted of first-degree murder and weapons offenses this week, after killing his stepfather in 2021.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said Christian Smith, 27, pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot his stepfather, Dennis McKenzie Jr., during an argument on Oct. 9, 2021, that turned into a fight at their home.
Authorities said Smith had made offensive comments about the sexuality of McKenzie's daughter.
Investigators say Smith’s mother was standing between the men when he fired four shots, hitting McKenzie once in the face and three times in the back. He then recorded himself saying “That’s what he gets” after.
Smith faces 30 years to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 20.
