NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in Gloucester County say a properly used tourniquet may have helped save Deptford Police Officer Bobby Shisler’s life after he was shot in the leg in 2023. Now, every cop in the county will be equipped with one as well as Narcan to help in cases of an overdose.
Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Tom Gilbert says every second counts in those situations.
“We all know that the quicker you can get someone care for whatever it is that’s ailing them, the better chance we have of helping them,” Gilbert said.
A grant from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office supplied the materials. Gilbert says officers will carry this pouch on their belt or vest.
Gilbert says so far, Gloucester is the only county with 100% buy-in from the local police department on this program.
It was less than $20,000 total to equip every officer in the county, money Gilbert says is well-spent.
