PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Five people were hurt Tuesday night in Wildwood when a teen lost control of a golf cart during a National Night Out event.

Wildwood police said a juvenile was driving a low-speed golf cart with a police officer during an impaired driving simulation and accidentally ran off the enclosed course at Fox Park, hitting several people.

Fire department officials were already on the scene and jumped in to help. Due to their injuries, four adults and one juvenile were taken to the hospital. Three of them have since been released. The conditions of the other two are unknown.

In a statement, the Wildwood Police Department said this simulation has been part of its National Night Out activities for 20 years. Investigators are looking into how the incident happened.

National Night Out is an annual campaign that encourages relationship-building between police and the communities they serve.
