PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As COVID-19 has continued its rise in Philadelphia, a nearby governor has contracted the virus.

Delaware Gov. John Carney announced Monday evening that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

“I tested positive this evening for COVID-19 on an at-home antigen test because I was experiencing mild symptoms,” said Carney in a tweet. He added that he is feeling well.

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health on Monday reported a per-day average of 364 new cases. That is about 30% higher than at the same time last week.

Additionally, about 12% of tests are coming back positive, 2% higher than last week.

Health officials noted that as more people use at-home tests, both the number of new cases and the positivity rate are less reliable. The Department of Public Health has stopped reporting hospital cases because the state has moved to reporting those numbers solely on a weekly basis.

Still, health leaders urged residents to stay updated on their vaccines and wear masks in crowded indoor spaces, including mass transit.
