PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — GSK is investing more than $800 million to expand operations in Montgomery County as part of its largest-ever manufacturing investment.

Biopharma company GSK says it is expanding its Upper Merion site, with construction set to begin next year on an innovation and manufacturing hub that would combine commercial production with research and development on the same site.

“We are going to need about 300, or north of 300, new full-time GSK employees to run this state-of-the-art facility, and that doesn't include all the trades that we need to build this actual plant,” said GSK’s John Jewett.

Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger noted that GSK could have picked anywhere in the United States or the world for the site.

“Businesses don't make major investments like this based on faith,” Siger said. “They make it on data. They make it on finding highly skilled workers, the right location to help them grow and thrive for years to come.”

It’s the company’s second $800 million investment in Pennsylvania in the last two years, as GSK expanded its Lancaster County facility in October 2024.

“After not being on the field of play for years and years and years, Pennsylvania is not just competing in life sciences; we are winning big deals and big investments like this one,” said Gov. Josh Shapiro.
