PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are looking for two men they said shot and killed a 26-year-old man Saturday night in the Temple University area of North Philadelphia.
They said it happened when the victim arrived on the 900 block of Berks Street around 6:15 p.m. near the Temple University Regional Rail stop. Police Inspector DF Pace said the two gunmen were waiting for him in a black Honda.
"He attempted to run but the shooters chased him down and tragically firing and killing him,” Pace said.
Authorities said the man was shot multiple times throughout his body and died shortly later at Temple University hospital.
Investigators found more than 15 shell casings at the scene from two different weapons, one was a rifle.
The investigation later expanded to another scene about 10 minutes away where police found a burned-out black Honda was found near 17th and Wishart Streets, just off Allegheny Avenue.
"A rifle was found inside that vehicle after the fire department doused the flames and we were able to investigate further,” Pace said.
No arrests have been made. An investigation is active and ongoing with the Homicide Unit.
Police are still looking for a handgun that is also thought to have been used in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police tip line at 215-686-847.
