SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — School officials in Haddonfield are proposing new regulations on artificial intelligence usage. One of the initiatives would ban generative AI for K-5 students.
A copy of the policy proposal provided to KYW Newsradio outlines both the benefits and the risks presented by AI. It recommends providing only education, awareness and literacy of AI for the district’s youngest students. They wouldn’t be allowed to explore or tinker with generative AI platforms.
Middle and high school students would be introduced to generative AI under strict supervision, through approved vendors like Google, with more independence earned as students progress.
This is still just a proposal, and it would need board approval before implementation. The first public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 20.
