PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Federal prosecutors have confirmed “hundreds of potential victims” of a high school teacher on the Main Line who is being held on child pornography charges. Some of the teenagers he communicated with, investigators say, were his students at Harriton High School in Bryn Mawr.

According to a court filing, a “number of students” taught by 31-year-old Jeremy Schobel have come forward in the days since his arrest on June 7. They told investigators they had contact with the social media accounts that Schobel is accused of creating — which he made to obtain sexually explicit photos and videos of girls.

Prosecutors say the FBI confirmed at least one student sent such images to Schobel.

The case was brought to the attention of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in November 2022. Prosecutors said two Yubo accounts were engaging in the “online grooming” of minors, which linked back to Schobel.

According to investigators, Schobel admitted to posing as a girl on Yubo and Snapchat and communicating with many others for years. However, he denied communicating with any of his students.

A federal search warrant of Schobel’s Snapchat accounts “revealed hundreds of purported minor victims, thousands of pages of chats, and thousands of pornographic images and videos distributed and received by Schobel,” according to a court filing.

At a hearing on Tuesday, the judge ordered Schobel to be kept behind bars until the start of his trial.
