HAVERTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Students at Haverford High School in Havertown, Delaware County, were evacuated Wednesday morning and dismissed for the rest of the day due to a bomb threat.
Haverford Township police said the threat was concerning because it mentioned a specific location in the school. They conducted a sweep of the school with K-9s from the bomb unit.
Students were evacuated to the neighboring Haverford Middle School. At 10 a.m., all high schoolers were dismissed for the day. Buses arrived to take them home.
Some panicked parents lined up outside the middle school to pick up their kids.
“Any parent, obviously, it’s your worst fear,” said Meghan, who had been trying to get in touch with her 11th-grade daughter.
“She called, said she had been sending me text messages but I wasn’t getting them. And she said, ‘You get my message?’ A little frantic. So she said that the high school had been evacuated. She didn’t know what was going on. She didn’t know why.”
Another mother who did not want to be named said the threat was an unfortunate sign of the times.
“Considering what just happened at Brown [University] and the general world around us, it’s always disconcerting,” she said. “But it feels like a more credible thing once all these other things are happening.”
Police concluded their sweep of the school. KYW Newsradio has reached out to authorities for more information.
