NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — It’s the last day of operation for Holy Name School in Camden. Former students visited to open a time capsule they sealed in 2001.
A Discman, Tweety Bird stuffy, old newspapers from the 76ers' NBA finals appearance and several letters to the future were locked inside the time capsule.
Former student Ruby Valdez and her best friend grew up together at this school, and their kids went there together, too. She said it’s sad this chapter of their shared lives is closing.
“Love, faith, loyalty, morals, respect, dedication, hard work. Everything that we have learned and have molded us into the adults that we are today, we learned here,” Valdez said.
She says many of the kids will transfer to St. Cecilia School and stay together.
There was also a $5 bill inside the capsule. If that had been invested in Apple stock in 2001, it would be worth more than $4,000 today — but, perhaps, memories are priceless.
