PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents reportedly raided a North Philadelphia car wash on Tuesday, according to the South Philadelphia-based immigrant advocacy organization Juntos.
Juntos told tell KYW Newsradio that ICE agents arrested seven people around 9 a.m. at the Complete Autowash Philly in Juniata Park off of East Hunting Park Avenue and H Street.
Local immigration rights groups spent the day rallying outside Philadelphia's ICE office.
"We were sending the message that if ICE wants to be here and do ... these things, that there's going to be a public outcry, and we're going to keep coming back let them know that it's unacceptable," said Julio Rodriguez, political director of the Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition.
Witnesses told KYW media partners at NBC10 that the people detained were employees and had worked there for more than a decade.
Video of the incident can be seen on the NBC10 website.
KYW has reached out to the local ICE office for comment.
Complete Autowash Philly isn't the first city business to have a brush with ICE. Workers at Jumbo Meat Market, a Brazilian grocery store in Philadelphia, told NBC10 ICE agents arrived at their business around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in search of two criminals.
Workers at the market said they did not recognize the two individuals. The store employees said the ICE agents then asked them to show their documents.
ICE announced yesterday that they made 1,179 arrests in a single day — the highest number since President Donald Trump took office a week ago. ICE's X account reports it has made more than 3,500 arrests since Thursday nationwide.
