PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Parkinson's disease is a condition in which parts of the brain slowly deteriorate and even die. Depending on which cells are impacted, there can be a wide variety of symptoms.

One of the major impacts can affect how a person moves. Although there are medications to help treat Parkinson's symptoms, it can be very difficult to reverse the damage that the disease has done.

According to a new report in Nature Medicine, a surgically implanted device is being studied that can send electrical signals to improve gait. The work is in the early stages, but the report is promising.

The research represents the latest development in the use of implanted devices to reverse or even eliminate symptoms of the disease.
