PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities in Delaware County have captured a prisoner who briefly evaded custody Thursday morning.

Workers at the Delaware County Courthouse in Media were notified that an inmate escaped while being transferred from G.W. Hill Correctional Facility to the courthouse.

Around 8:30 a.m., Taqwa Wilson was brought to the courthouse for a hearing when police said he bolted. Officials said he has a lengthy criminal history.

Wilson was spotted on residential streets, which prompted officials to issue a shelter-in-place notice. That order has since been lifted.

Multiple law enforcement agencies worked together to track him down. Within two hours, Wilson was found near Fourth and Broomall streets, not far from the courthouse.

“We did apprehend him in the neighborhood of the courthouse,” said Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer. “Just a couple streets away. We are now putting all the paperwork together. He is in custody. Nobody in the community needs to be alarmed at all.”

It is not clear if Wilson was shackled while on the run. Officials said he did not put up a fight once he was found and taken back into custody.
