Philadelphia inmate stabbed to death in cell, police say

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 59-year-old inmate was fatally stabbed at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Northeast Philadelphia Sunday morning, according to police.

The man was found stabbed and unconscious in his cell around 9:15 a.m. Medics attempted to treat him but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said he sustained blunt-force trauma to his head.

The man’s cellmate, a 25-year-old man, was promptly moved to another cell in a different area of the prison. Police did not say if the cellmate was considered a suspect.

The man’s death remains under investigation.
