It's showtime for seniors in socially distanced Zoom musical

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Residents at a local senior living facility are coming together by staying apart as they take part in a socially distanced musical.

"Ain't Congregatin'" is an original musical put together by seniors at the Watermark at Logan Square in Center City, about their time in quarantine.

"We've been getting together online, we put together this show, it cemented us as a community," said Pat Wisch, one of the residents who participated. The show was performed through social distancing via Zoom.

For Wisch, the performance was therapeutic.

"It was a wonderful distraction, a positive aspect of my week, because to no surprise, the pandemic has slowed things down," she said.

She said, in this time of social distancing where physical contact with her loved ones is few and far between, this was the perfect way for her to connect with them.

"I got phone calls, mostly from my children from around the country saying, 'Mom, that was awesome, you were great, you were funny.' My one son said, 'Mom, you're a natural.'"

The performance had some different difficulties, however, than an in-person play.

"It was challenging," said Wisch, "mostly because of the technicality of coming on at the right time and not having big pauses, but it was really fun. I feel very satisfied."
