PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of a medication called ivermectin was touted by certain groups as a treatment. In some cases, people denied themselves medically accepted treatment in favor of ivermectin.

A 2022 study examined the use of ivermectin on patients with COVID-19, who were not sick enough to be hospitalized, and a placebo group.

More than 1,200 people were studied, and according to researchers, the time it took to completely recover was 11 days for both the ivermectin group and the placebo group.

Ivermectin did not improve COVID-19 recovery time, the study concluded, thus researchers did not support the use of ivermectin in outpatients.
