PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia Business Journal article hints at a possible relocation of Jefferson Health's headquarters out of Philadelphia to the Lehigh Valley.

According to the article, CEO Dr. Joseph Cacchione spoke during a Business Journal event and raised the question of whether it makes sense to keep the main hub on Market Street in Center City.

Following its mega-merger with the Lehigh Valley Network last summer, Jefferson has grown to a 32-hospital, $15 billion health system, spanning from eastern Pennsylvania to South Jersey.

Roughly 2,000 employees work at the headquarters where Jefferson leases more than 230,000 square feet.

Cacchione said in part, "a third of our health system is in the Lehigh Valley, so there's an inefficiency to that."

Cacchione stressed Jefferson is a 201-year-old Philadelphia organization and will continue to have a "strong presence" in the city.
