PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Atlantic County didn't have to look very hard to find an alleged car burglar this week.
Authorities released body camera footage to our partners at NBC10, which shows Hamilton Township police responding to a call that someone had broken into a man's pickup truck outside a LongHorn Steakhouse on Thursday night. When officers arrived, they found the suspect, 19-year-old Jeison Henriquez Sanchez, had locked himself inside the truck and couldn’t escape.
Sanchez told police he got inside the vehicle because he thought it belonged to his parents. They later determined that not to be true.
The owner of the truck spoke to police on scene and said his car has some mechanical issues, which makes it difficult to get out of the car once you’re inside.
“You can get in, but you can't get out unless somebody lets you out from the outside,” he told police. “I have to wind the windows down to get out.”
Sanchez was taken into custody without incident and charged with burglary. According to NBC10, police said Sanchez had warrants out for his arrest for unrelated charges and remains in jail as of Friday night.
Gilder said most people aren't so lucky if their car is broken into. Some tips: make sure your valuables are not in plain view, and always lock your car.
