PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An Uber driver is injured, and his passenger, dead, after a man fled police and crashed into their car in North Philadelphia early Monday.
Around 7:15 a.m., Philadelphia sheriffs attempted to serve a warrant to 35-year-old Joseph Cini for domestic assault on the 900 block of North Watts Street, near Broad Street. But officers said Cini fled the scene in a Nissan Maxima and drove eastbound on Girard Avenue.
About 10 minutes later, officers responded to a car accident at the intersection of Ninth Street and Girard Avenue, where a Nissan Maxima collided with a red Jeep, which had an Uber driver and a 63-year-old woman inside. The woman died at the scene. The 51-year-old Uber driver was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to be OK.
Cini ran off toward Eighth Street. He is still wanted in connection with the domestic assault warrant and for fleeing the scene of a fatal accident.
