PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The man who fled police and crashed into an Uber vehicle in North Philadelphia on Monday, killing a passenger and injuring the driver, has surrendered to authorities.
Joseph Cini, 35, turned himself in at police headquarters Tuesday night.
According to police, officers tried to serve Cini an arrest warrant for domestic assault around 7:45 a.m. Monday, on the 900 block of North Watts Street, near Broad Street. However, police said he jumped in his car, sped away, and crashed into an Uber a few blocks away, at the intersection of Ninth Street and Girard Avenue.
Police said Cini ran off toward Eighth Street.
A passenger in the Uber, 63-year-old Angela Cooper, was killed. The Uber driver, 51-year-old Pastor Stephen Thompson, was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
