Prosecutors believe Quran Garner's actions the night of June 4, 2022, helped spark the shooting that killed three and injured a dozen others.
Garner, 19, pleaded guilty to a single gun charge in June — his first as an adult. He had a prior conviction as a juvenile.
His attorney conceded he should have never had a gun, but she outlined several traumas Garner has faced in his life, including the murder of a friend and, at times, being homeless.

Garner apologized to the court and said he wasn't looking for trouble that night. Judge Diana Anhalt said guns continue to plague her courtroom each day, and she sentenced him to at least 18 months and up to 23 ½ months in prison.
He has been behind bars since the shooting and could be released as early as December, but as part of his sentence, Anhalt ordered Garner to undergo intense trauma therapy, participate in a mentorship program and finish school.
And she warned him: His sentence will be much worse if he's ever caught with a gun again.
