PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A teenager has been charged in connection with the shooting at Christy Recreation Center Wednesday evening that injured five.
Police say staff members broke up a fight at the recreation center on 56th and Christian streets. Those involved left, but later returned around 4 p.m. Shots were fired outside the pool, striking a 10-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, two 16-year-olds and a 32-year-old staff member. One of the 16-year-olds is critical.
Police say 17-year-old Keon Kiah is one of several people who returned to the center after the dispute. He is accused of discharging a gun near the pool while kids and staff members were there.
Kiah turned himself in to police on Friday. He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and related offenses.
Police released video Friday of a teenager believed to be between 15 and 18 years old, seen fleeing the scene after the shooting in a du-rag and black t-shirt. They have not yet revealed his identity.
