PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A hit-and-run driver was charged with attempted murder after a shootout with police near the King of Prussia Mall Sunday afternoon while the area was swarmed with holiday shoppers.

Police say it happened around 2:30 p.m. in the Green Deck parking lot of the mall, where 27-year-old Andrew Wiley hit another car.

Wiley told police he panicked and tried to hide the car — a red Nissan Juke —in the parking garage, but an Upper Merion Township bike officer saw him, so he drove off at a high speed.

Wiley attempted to leave via the mall's North Gulph Road exit but got stuck in traffic.

A patrol car pulled up behind his vehicle and, upon seeing the officer, Wiley turned right, jumped a curb and entered the Seasons 52 parking lot, where he then drove off a four-foot stone wall.

The vehicle became disabled and the officer approached Wiley on foot.

Police say Wiley then exited his vehicle with a handgun and fired shots at the cop.

The officer dodged the bullets, took cover behind an SUV and fired back at Wiley.

Police say the officer was not injured but Wiley suffered at least two gunshot wounds to the leg.

Wiley was brought to the hospital for his injuries where he was treated, released, then taken into custody.

Authorities say Wiley was arrested at least twice in 2019, including weapons charges, but sources say they were dropped by the Philadelphia District Attorney's office.
