KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A King of Prussia man who police say tried to kidnap his estranged wife in a Walmart parking lot, with plans to rape and murder her, has entered a plea to the charges.
53-year-old Geoffrey Kay-Conway entered a no-contest plea to four charges, including attempted murder and attempted rape, stalking, and attempted indecent assault. In an agreement with prosecutors, he will be sentenced to 15-to-30 years in state prison once a sexually violent predator assessment is completed.
Prosecutor Lauren Marvel says Kay-Conway was stalking and harassing his now-ex-wife after she got a protection from abuse order last summer. Then on November 19th, she says he took action.
“The defendant found the victim, he had had a tracker on her car, at the Walmart in Upper Merion in Montgomery County, and he approached her with an ice pick with zip ties and a black pepper ball gun,” she said.
Kay-Conway tried to force her into the passenger seat of her car, but when she refused, he stabbed her in the leg with the ice pick. She escaped through the passenger side door and witnesses in the parking lot stepped in to help.
Police say Kay-Conway had a black duffel bag with family photo albums, duct tape, zip ties, and a letter addressed to his brother, written as though he was already dead, talking about how he raped and killed his estranged wife and then killed himself.
Police also found a copy of a court order from a violation of the PFA. On the bottom, they say Kay-Conway had written he had until his next court date to kill her, adding “what a week system.”
Marvel says prosecutors always fear escalating violence in cases like this.
“This case is particularly disturbing because you see in written detail, through his writings, exactly what those plans were,” she said.
With a no-contest plea, Kay-Conway isn’t admitting guilt but is conceding there would be enough evidence to convict him if he went to trial.
