PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man is in police custody after authorities said he killed his wife inside their shared business in Germantown last week.

Officers were called to Mister Relaxation Spa & Lounge on Germantown Avenue around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. Upon arrival, they found 48-year-old Rashida Irvin shot several times inside a bathroom. She died at the scene.

Police issued an arrest warrant for her husband, 55-year-old Kyle Irvin, who had been on the run since her death. He surrendered to the police around midnight on Aug. 20.

Kyle Irvin was arrested in January on gun charges, has an involuntary manslaughter conviction from nearly 30 years ago, and, according to court records, was charged with murder in 1998 after his 3-year-old found a gun inside a bedroom and accidentally shot himself in the eye.

The child was rushed to a hospital and died days later. Kyle Irvin was arrested. Six other guns were found inside the home, though he was not allowed to own any because he was already a convicted felon. Murder charges in that case were eventually downgraded to involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of children. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years of probation.

Philadelphia police said Kyle Irvin will be charged with murder and related offenses in the death of his wife.
