PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury Friday for killing his lover then setting his body on fire in Fairmount Park two years ago.
Kylen Pratt, 23, is now convicted of killing Naasire Johnson in February 2022. His charred remains were found along Kelly Drive near Brewery Hill. Authorities say he had been shot.
Throughout the week, prosecutors called detectives, crime scene officers and the victim’s grandmother to prove their case, while the defense tried to poke holes in their case.
Pratt was sentenced to automatic life in prison, plus additional years for a weapons charge, abuse of corpse, and tampering with evidence. He was also ordered to pay nearly $18,000 in restitution.
“This moment does bring some bit of closure but no sentence can truly heal the pain that we feel,” said Johnson’s relative Hakeem Pitts. “The deep wound that has been afflicted onto our family stretches far beyond us.”
