KYW Medical Report: Air filters help reduce COVID-19 spread

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — COVID-19 has spurred the rapid development of new strategies to fight the public health issue.

Clear examples are the vaccines and the use of monoclonal antibodies to fight the virus. But occasionally, the breakthroughs lead to a greater appreciation of tools that have been around but virtually ignored.

An article in the journal Nature details how HEPA filters, relatively inexpensive devices, can effectively remove particles of COVID-19 from the air.

This is particularly important in the hospital setting, where, despite aggressive and consistent use of PPE, the goal is to dramatically reduce COVID-19 in the overall environment.

Not everything that helps in the battle against disease must be new.
