PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The challenges of vaccinating people on such a grand scale has never been seen in this country.

There's no doubt there has been a learning curve. Distributing and injecting the COVID-19 vaccine continues to be an enormously complex public health challenge that has never been faced before.

Over the next six months, the U.S. hopes to distribute enough doses of the coronavirus vaccine to reach the arm of every American.

Think back on family trips you have taken in the past and the small towns or rural areas you have seen as you crisscrossed the country in your car. The goal is to reach all of these people in cities big and small.

The challenges are daunting, but the stakes are high as we lose more than 2,000 people every day.

As a physician, I can tell you that it will be a dark and deadly winter. But as the vaccines become available, it will ultimately give way to a more hopeful spring.

In the meantime, please social distance and continue wearing masks.
