KYW Medical Report: Got the J&J vaccine? Let’s talk boosters

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a traditional vaccine that is not a product of the newer mRNA technology.

When it was initially released, there were many who favored the vaccine because it was a one-and-done shot, and because of concerns about using the other vaccines made with new techniques.

All of the vaccines were designed to ultimately have boosters, and we learned the J&J vaccine needed a booster even sooner than Pfizer and Moderna. This is why everyone over the age of 18 is eligible for boosters right away if they had J&J — and, they can mix and match.

Regardless of the make of the vaccine, COVID-19 boosters will be with us for a while. The key is increasing overall vaccination rates.
