The British Medical Journal has a list of the top medical milestones of all time. COVID-19 vaccines — or more specifically, antiviral therapy targeting coronavirus — will likely be added to the list, but the competition to make it to the top will be staggering.
In fact, vaccines — all vaccines — are only in eighth place. Journal editors put antibiotics at the top. Closely following were diagnostic imaging, tissue culture, and anesthesia.
Readers also had a chance to vote, and they overwhelmingly chose the introduction of clean water and sewage disposal, which came in fifth.
