PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Scientists are aggressively working to prevent yet another wave of COVID-19 this spring.
It's actually difficult to count whether or not we've had two or three waves of COVID-19, or if we've had a steady, unrelenting flow — it certainly seems that way.
Scientists are now raising concerns about another surge this spring brought on, in part, by the new, more aggressive strain.
Last summer, experts were looking at herd immunity, and what we knew at that point about the virus was that they were estimating that somewhere about 70% of individuals would need to be immune in order to achieve this level.
The new strain is more easily transmitted and the numbers have been revised: it's now probably more like 85%.
