PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It has been obvious to health care workers that masks work, but now there is more than anecdotal information.
From the very beginning, the use of masks to help block the spread of COVID-19 was questioned because it took a while for many in our country — professionals included — to embrace the widespread use of masks, as well as build a supply.
Early on, there were shortages, even in the hospital, setting because of the widespread demand. But the protection of masks — known for decades in the hospital setting — is proving extremely effective at blocking viral spread.
The CDC is now looking at school children in schools where masks are mandatory and not mandatory. The numbers are showing a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in schools not requiring masks.
