PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There is no doubt that the race to get a COVID-19 vaccine to the market is heating up. But the inconsistent messaging around the speed of getting the vaccine developed is having a major impact on the average citizen.

Concerning data suggests that only 51% of the U.S. population would receive a COVID-19 vaccine if one became available — a sizable decline from the 72% of Americans who said they would take a dose of a future vaccine back in April.

The problem is simple: as groups of politicians debate the value of science, they are planting seeds of distrust in the general public.

A successful vaccine program is dependent on trust. Remember, a vaccine works when everyone buys in.
