PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — 2021 is here and it’s a time for New Year’s resolutions, which may be a bit different this year.

It has always been a tradition in my family and countless others to make New Year's resolutions. I am willing to argue that just about everyone listening has resolved to lose 15 pounds or dust off that treadmill, remove the sweaters draped over it and begin exercising.

Many people don't make it out of week one, but it makes everyone who had too much to eat or drink over the holidays feel better to resolve to change, at least for a few days.

This year, I sense a difference.

Resolutions have shifted to spending more time with family once it is safe, respecting the dignity of others with the realization that each day is to be treasured and not a guarantee.

Nothing will erase the horror of 2020, but if all of us can grow a little bit in our humanity, it really can be a happy new year.
