PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As a growing number of people get vaccinated against COVID-19, there is one common question asked more than any other: Should I take ibuprofen or acetaminophen before getting the COVID-19 vaccine?

The answer is simple: do not take a pain killer in advance of the vaccine.

Vaccines work by tricking the body into mounting antibodies as a defense against the virus and for many people, it can cause annoying symptoms like fever and muscle aches.

A study on mice in the Journal of Virology looked at ibuprofen and found that it might lower production of antibodies.

If you have to take one, choose acetaminophen.

You should call your physician if you have more concerning symptoms and don't hesitate to reach out if you're already taking one of those medications for a health condition.
