PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some studies are starting to focus on the impact of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
People who were hospitalized for COVID-19 faced incredible health issues, and for many — even after discharge home — the problems remained. A new study looking at COVID-19 and its impact in the U.K. has dramatic information.
According to the study, 27% of those discharged had decreased ability to function independently, and for more than 50%, there was extensive damage to organ systems such as respiratory, cardiac and kidney.
Perhaps most concerning: The issues occurred in all age groups relatively equally, and equally in those with and without preexisting conditions.
The impact of COVID-19 on these people will not go away soon.
