PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as other government agencies and academic centers, are looking at the next steps in the battle against COVID-19.
Just about all of them agree that we will need to get booster shots for several reasons.
First, the vaccines have been developed to fight the predominant strain of COVID-19 in our country and around the world. But RNA viruses mutate and change — rapidly.
The vaccines that have been developed are designed to attack the outer spikes in COVID-19. Those spikes are relatively easy to attack. Boosters will keep our immune systems poised to fight new variants.
The good news is we know that the vaccines have been extremely safe. We just have to be one step ahead.
