PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As Memorial Day approaches, many are celebrating the gradual rescinding of COVID-19 restrictions, including Pennsylvania's proposal to lift the mask mandate once 70% of its population is vaccinated.
However, many others still harbor personal fears.
Most of us can’t wait to emerge from relative isolation, but if you are a bit fearful about the loosening of restrictions, you are not alone. In fact, the feeling has been given a name: coronaphobia.
It's not yet an official medical term, but it does seem to describe quite well the lingering fear of contracting the COVID-19 as well as fear of returning to public places.
As each social barrier is broken down over the next few weeks and months, many of us will be wondering if we are still safe. One piece of advice that I have is not to feel embarrassed to wear a mask. If it gives you a sense of security, then by all means, wear it until you feel comfortable.
And if you haven't yet done so, consider getting the vaccine.
