PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Starting Friday, indoor dining increases to 50% capacity in Philadelphia, which overlaps the end of Dine Latino Restaurant Week.

While many of us have refrained from traveling and taking vacations due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce says you can still take a tour abroad without leaving the city.

"Going to Venezuela, COVID or no COVID, is a challenge, right? So, go to Puyero. Their arepas are fantastic," suggested Jennifer Rodriguez, president and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "Have you even thought about going to Guatemala? You can go to El Merkury and you can get some churros.

"Eating Latino-American food doesn't mean everything needs to be fried and unhealthy food. You can do vegan food, so Bar Bombon, for example."

Want to visit Mexico? Try South Philly.

"You can go to Casa Mexico, you can go to Tamalex. There are a number of (Mexican restaurants) in South Philadelphia," said Rodriguez.

The Chamber of Commerce purposely chose National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, to launch Philly's Dine Latino Restaurant Week.

"The fact is that Latinos are the backbone of the restaurant and hospitality industry, whether as business owners or as employees, and we have a lot to contribute," Rodriguez said.

"The incentive here is you buy two dinner entrees, you receive a free appetizer or a free dessert with your meal."
