PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Camden County man is facing life in prison after he was convicted of kidnapping and trying to kill his girlfriend in a shooting nearly a year and a half ago.

Jurors found 33-year-old Akeem Morton, of Lindenwold, guilty of first-degree kidnapping, attempted murder, and aggravated assault following a two-week trial.

In December 2024, prosecutors said Morton and his girlfriend were arguing inside a car at the intersection of Clementon Road and Haddon Avenue in Gibbsboro. At one point, Morton drove away without letting her out.

Officials said she eventually jumped out of the moving car. Then, they said, Morton shot her several times, put her back in the car, and drove her to nearby Jefferson Stratford Hospital.

Morton was later arrested at the hospital.

Sentencing is set for May 8. He faces a mandatory life sentence.
