Long-shuttered Center City subway concourse reopens

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A part of Center City's subway concourse that was closed for six years reopened this morning.

The concourse under Broad Street, linking Walnut-Locust with SEPTA's 15th Street/City Hall complex, has been closed since COVID. SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch said it has reopened just in time for World Cup and America 250 visitors.

"The south Broad concourse is back. It's open now and it's going to be open through the summer and beyond," he said.

There's new lighting and a new cashier's booth with bi-directional roto-gates.

Busch said Transit Police will make regular patrols in the area.

"We do need to make sure that we prevent any kind of encampment or anything else from popping up there," he said.

The corridor linking PATCO's 12/13th and 15/16th Street stations remains closed.
