PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Lower Merion Township police are warning residents to stay alert after several recent burglary reports. Police believe the suspects are part of an organized theft crew targeting wealthy neighborhoods.
Investigators said the suspects appear to target homes that look empty, often entering through second-floor windows or doors before stealing high-value items that are easy to carry.
“Burglars want jewelry; they want small items they can carry and get away with,” Lt. Michael Keenan with the Lower Merion Police Department told our newsgathering partners at NBC10
Police said they believe the crimes may be connected with organized crews that the FBI said travel across the country using rental cars and fake identities.
Investigators encourage homeowners to make their homes appear occupied by putting lights on timers, stopping mail and package deliveries while away, and paying attention to anything that seems out of place in their neighborhood.
