HAVERFORD (KYW Newsradio) — Three men were charged with mail theft in Haverford Township Thursday.

Police say an officer saw what appeared to be a man stealing mail from a mailbox on Darby Road in Havertown early Thursday morning.

The suspect then jumped into a car and sped off.

When the officer tried to stop the car, the suspects fled the scene, leading to a car chase.

Mail was seen thrown from the vehicle, which then crashed along Karakung Drive.

Following the crash, two of the suspects fled on foot.

All three suspects - two from Philly and one from Upper Darby - were arrested.

Authorities recovered a handgun and two large USPS bins containing nearly 500 pieces of mail from the vehicle.
