PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 22-year-old Telford man is accused of breaking into a home in Lansdale and raping a woman who is in her 90s.
John Gray has been charged with burglary, rape and sexual assault.
According to the criminal complaint, around 2:30 a.m. on May 10, 2025, Towamencin police were called to the home of a 79-year-old woman who said a man was trying to open her window. She said that when she yelled, the man ran away.
About 30 minutes later, the woman in her 90s told police that she woke up to a man in her bedroom. Her home is nearby on Dock Drive, in the Dock Woods Senior Living Community.
When she asked what he wanted, he replied, “I want you,” telling her she’s beautiful and that he’d seen her in the cafeteria. She told him that she’s an old woman; then, he sexually assaulted her, officials said.
The woman said the man was in her home for about an hour, but she didn’t get a good look at him because it was dark.
The affidavit of probable cause said that, based on other contact with police, a warrant was issued for Gray’s DNA, and it matched a sample taken from the woman’s nightgown.
Court documents link Gray to two other break-ins and attempted sexual assaults in November involving older women, but he is not currently charged with those crimes.
Gray is being held without bail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for later this month.
