PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Neighbors tackled a homeless man to the ground who, according to Philadelphia police, was attempting to abduct a woman in Fitler Square Monday night. Authorities are investigating two more incidents.

Investigators say 34-year-old Jacob Alex Montague, armed with a knife, approached a woman who was walking her dog around 5:30 p.m. at 24th and Locust streets. He tried to drag the 26-year-old to his car.

Two people nearby heard her screaming and yelling and were able to pull her from the car and pin the alleged abductor to the ground until police arrived.

Police say just a day before — Sunday around 11: 30 p.m. — a 28-year-old woman had a similar encounter in Rittenhouse Square, but she was able to run away and call 911.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a third possible attempt, in which police say Montague may have followed someone from Glen Mills to the city for about an hour and tried to pull her over several times.

Montague is in custody and is charged with attempted kidnapping, stalking, aggravated assault and related offenses.
