PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 14-car crash left a man dead and multiple others injured along West Chester Pike Saturday afternoon.
It happened just after noon, when Haverford Township police said a man in his 60s began driving erratically along West Chester Pike, near Darby Road.
According to police, the man was driving a pickup truck and appeared to have a medical episode.
They said it led to him crashing into other vehicles in the westbound lanes of West Chester Pike for almost two miles.
His truck flipped after hitting a U-Haul and a Prius near Eagle Road.
The man, who police said lived in Havertown, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Al Gunaydin owns Havertown Cafe, located across the street from the scene. He said he watched the man’s truck become airborne.
“It was pretty shocking. I just couldn't get anywhere closer to it. There was blood all over, and I tried to tell the kids not to get closer.”
Police said 14 cars were involved in the crash, and eight people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
