23-year-old shot dead near Temple University Hospital was son of Philly cop, says DA

Police believe shooting was the result of a robbery

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia district attorney says the 23-year-old man shot and killed early Monday morning at North Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue was the son of a Philadelphia police officer.

Around 4:30 a.m., police say 23-year-old Hyram Hill stopped by Maria Mini Market, near Temple University Hospital, and was shot right in front of the bus stop.

He was home from college at the time. Authorities believe it was the result of a robbery.

“He was shot approximately nine times, eight times in the back,” said Joanne Pescatore, supervisor for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

Hill was pronounced dead at the hospital around 5 a.m.

No arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered. Police say the investigation is active and ongoing with homicide detectives.
