BURLINGTON, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Police in South Jersey are investigating after a man was found dead on the side of a busy road in Burlington Township Monday night. Witnesses said the victim was hit by a driver who didn’t stop at the scene.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. on Sunset Road, near Hospital Drive, close to Virtua Willingboro Hospital.
Tamika told NBC10 she saw the commotion: “I was riding on my way to go see the Eagles game and I noticed there was a body on the side of the road with a bunch of people standing over it. And when I looked over, I just saw a body and a bunch of blood just coming out of his head.”
Authorities said the person died, but they did not go into further detail. They did not say that the man was hit by a car, or that it was a hit-and-run. Witnesses, however, said a driver hit the man and fled.
Witnesses also noted how dangerous that intersection can be, with several shops and restaurants there.
“It is pretty crazy. People speed through here all the time, especially right here,” said Nhaja Mardy.
As of Tuesday morning, police have not released the victim’s name or a description of a car they may be looking for.
